Biography

Carol Chambers was born in 1963 in Singapore. As a British child growing up in Asia, her first art impressions were classical Asian temple paintings. Moving to England to school, completing a BA in Philosophy at the University of London, she discovered the European Old Masters and took advantage of being allowed to attend classes at the Slade School of Fine Art. It was there that she began studying drawing and sculpture.

Over the next six years, she lived in Spain and Eastern Europe and travelled the world, from New Zealand to the head-hunting tribes of the Bornean jungle, sometimes working her passage on cargo ships. During this time, she visited many of the great museum and gallery collections of the world, including the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

In 1992, she came to the US and made her home near a mountain-top vineyard in California. During this time, she came across David Leffel's work and teaching. She attended her first workshop with him in 1997, and her painting took on a new focus.

Carol lives with her son in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California. She is an associate member of Oil Painters of America. Her work can be viewed at WildeMeyer Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona; James Harrold Galleries, Lake Tahoe; Camelot Gallery in Marysville, and in private collections throughout the world.
